    This text tries to illustrate what we understand by strangeness, alterity and exotopy. From the point of view of a stranger, we, as Brazilians, see and read products of foreign cultures in an exotopic way, which is quite productive. The same occurs with Germans looking at US, which gives us another view of ourselves. As an illustration, the poem "calypso" from Ernst Jandl will be discussed in this context. Dieser Text versucht zu veranschaulichen, was man unter Fremdheit, Alterität und Exotopie versteht. Als Brasilianer sehen und lesen wir Produkte einer fremden Kultur von einem exotopischen Standpunkt aus, der besonders produktiv ist. Dieselbe Perspektive haben wiederum Deutsche, wenn sie ihren Blick auf uns richten, was uns selbst eine neue Perspektive unserer Identität ermöglicht. Als Veranschaulichung wird das Gedicht "calypso" von Ernst Jandl in diesem Kontext behandelt.

    The objective of this text is to analyze the stranger's experience in the novel "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge" by Rainer Maria Rilke through new interpretation perspectives based, for example, on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theories. Living in a foreign metropolis (Paris), which he does not identify with yet, the novel's protagonist, Malte Laurids Brigge, discovers a new inner world through his shock with stranger's experiences in this environment. The revelation of his childhood memories and his ego projection through readings of narratives by others are his methods to search and assert his identity. O objetivo deste texto é analisar a experiência do estranho no romance "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge", de Rainer Maria Rilke, através de novas perspectivas de interpretação apoiadas, por exemplo, nas teorias psicanalíticas de Sigmund Freud. Vivendo em uma cidade estrangeira (Paris), com a qual ainda não se identifica, o protagonista do romance, Malte Laurids Brigge, descobre um mundo interior novo através de seu choque com experiências do estranho nesse milieu. A revelação de recordações de sua infância e a projeção de seu ego em leituras de narrativas alheias são seus métodos para buscar e afirmar sua identidade.

    Alienation and strangeness could be understood as markers of cultural paradigms. The first term is related to modernity as the second is to postmodernity. One stands for identity, the other for alterity. While the existence of the phenomenon of alienation becomes disputable, the discourse of strangeness becomes intensified in the European academic sphere. In a way, the discourse of strangeness is labeled by a cultural critic, which tries to justify "strange" for centuries dispelled by the European culture. Meanwhile, a phenomenology of alienation is developed to re-structure the term. Both phenomena are connected insofar as alienation can be understood as a temporary moment of strangeness. ... Entfremdung (alienação) e Fremdheit (estranheza) podem ser entendidos como demarcadores de paradigmas culturais. A primeira está para a modernidade, assim como a segunda está para a pós-modernidade. Uma está para identidade, e a outra para alteridade. Enquanto a existência do fenômeno da alienação tornou-se questionável na atualidade, o discurso sobre estranheza vem se consolidando no âmbito acadêmico europeu. Tal discurso é, em certa medida, marcado por uma crítica cultural que tenta fazer justiça ao "estranho" recalcado por séculos pela cultura europeia. Enquanto isso, uma fenomenologia da alienação começa também a se desenvolver, a fim de reformular o conceito. Os dois fenômenos relacionam-se na medida em que a alienação é entendida como um momento transitório da estranheza. ...

    This text tries to illustrate what we understand by strangeness, alterity and exotopy. From the point of view of a stranger, we, as Brazilians, see and read products of foreign cultures in an exotopic way, which is quite productive. The same occurs with Germans looking at US, which gives us another view of ourselves. As an illustration, the poem "calypso" from Ernst Jandl will be discussed in this context. ; Dieser Text versucht zu veranschaulichen, was man unter Fremdheit, Alterität und Exotopie versteht. Als Brasilianer sehen und lesen wir Produkte einer fremden Kultur von einem exotopischen Standpunkt aus, der besonders produktiv ist. Dieselbe Perspektive haben wiederum Deutsche, wenn sie ihren Blick auf uns richten, was uns selbst eine neue Perspektive unserer Identität ermöglicht. Als Veranschaulichung wird das Gedicht "calypso" von Ernst Jandl in diesem Kontext behandelt.

    Alienation and strangeness could be understood as markers of cultural paradigms. The first term is related to modernity as the second is to postmodernity. One stands for identity, the other for alterity. While the existence of the phenomenon of alienation becomes disputable, the discourse of strangeness becomes intensified in the European academic sphere. In a way, the discourse of strangeness is labeled by a cultural critic, which tries to justify "strange" for centuries dispelled by the European culture. Meanwhile, a phenomenology of alienation is developed to re-structure the term. Both phenomena are connected insofar as alienation can be understood as a temporary moment of strangeness. Both theories turned out to be productive in literary analysis. ; Entfremdung (alienação) e Fremdheit (estranheza) podem ser entendidos como demarcadores de paradigmas culturais. A primeira está para a modernidade, assim como a segunda está para a pós-modernidade. Uma está para identidade, e a outra para alteridade. Enquanto a existência do fenômeno da alienação tornou-se questionável na atualidade, o discurso sobre estranheza vem se consolidando no âmbito acadêmico europeu. Tal discurso é, em certa medida, marcado por uma crítica cultural que tenta fazer justiça ao "estranho" recalcado por séculos pela cultura europeia.     The objective of this text is to analyze the stranger's experience in the novel "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge" by Rainer Maria Rilke through new interpretation perspectives based, for example, on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theories. Living in a foreign metropolis (Paris), which he does not identify with yet, the novel's protagonist, Malte Laurids Brigge, discovers a new inner world through his shock with stranger's experiences in this environment. The revelation of his childhood memories and his ego projection through readings of narratives by others are his methods to search and assert his identity. ; O objetivo deste texto é analisar a experiência do estranho no romance "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge", de Rainer Maria Rilke, através de novas perspectivas de interpretação apoiadas, por exemplo, nas teorias psicanalíticas de Sigmund Freud. Vivendo em uma cidade estrangeira (Paris), com a qual ainda não se identifica, o protagonista do romance, Malte Laurids Brigge, descobre um mundo interior novo através de seu choque com experiências do estranho nesse milieu. A revelação de recordações de sua infância e a projeção de seu ego em leituras de narrativas alheias são seus métodos para buscar e afirmar sua identidade.
