    Don Quixote de la Mancha (1605) is one of the classic texts of Western literature and the foundation of European fiction. Yet Cervantes himself remains an enigmatic figure. The Cambridge Companion to Cervantes, first published in 2002, offers a comprehensive treatment of Cervantes' life and work, including his lesser known writing. The essays, by some of the most outstanding scholars in the field, cover the historical and political context of Cervantes' writing, his place in Renaissance culture, and the role of his masterpiece, Don Quixote, in the formation of the modern novel. They draw on contemporary critical perspectives to shed new light on Cervantes' work, including the 'Exemplary Novels', the plays and dramatic interludes, and the long romances, Galatea and Persiles. The volume provides useful supporting material for students; suggestions for further reading, a detailed chronology, a complete list of his published writings, an overview of translations and editions, and a guide to electronic resources.

    Obwohl für das Verständnis der Texte hochrelevant, wurde die spannungsreiche Wechselbeziehung zwischen pikarischem Erzählen und ökonomischem Wissen der Frühen Neuzeit bisher nicht systematisch untersucht. Dies ändert die Arbeit, indem sie an Haupttexten der Gattung - vom "Lazarillo de Tormes" (1554) bis zu den ausgreifenden Romanprojekten H.J.C. von Grimmelshausens (um 1622–1676) und Johann Beers (1655–1700) – wesentliche Schnittstellen und Konfliktkonstellationen dieser Wechselbeziehung analytisch beleuchtet. Es zeigt sich, dass die Dynamik pikarischen Erzählens, die seine Faszinationskraft bis heute ausmacht, nicht zuletzt aus der in ihm performierten Durchkreuzung etablierter ökonomischer Ordnungsvorstellungen resultiert. In ihrem Handeln und Erzählen machen Picaros ein Anderes der Ökonomie sichtbar, das in engem Zusammenhang mit frühneuzeitlichen Prozessen des Wissenswandels einerseits und der sozialen Funktion von Romanliteratur andererseits steht.

    Translations of Cervantes’ Don Quijote (1605) take pride of place among foreign literature in China. Despite the contrasts between the two cultures and the passage of four centuries the adventures and misadventures of the Castilian hero have always been popular with Chinese readers. In this book a corpus-based stylistic study is used to explore two contemporary Mandarin Chinese translations of Don Quijote: those by Yang Jiang (1978) and Liu Jingsheng (1995). Utilising a micro-structural perspective this study suggests explanations for the surprising popularity of Don Quijote in China.

    Desde su publicación en 1605, el Quijote ha sido, tal y como lo define el insigne cervantista Jean Canavaggio, "una historia de éxito". Durante sus cuatro siglos de trayectoria, las aventuras de don Quijote y la producción literaria cervantina han adquirido una significación universal que trasciende el medio en el que la obra de Cervantes fue publicada, ampliándose y expandiéndose respecto a su marco espacio-temporal originario. El objetivo de este trabajo no es otro que rastrear y analizar las vías por las que ha transcurrido y transcurre esta expansión. Para ello este volumen adopta una perspectiva transnacional y transmedial, huyendo del constreñimiento a una literatura nacional o a un medio -el literario- concreto, buscando de este modo una aproximación que aborde la influencia cervantina desde un espectro artístico cultural más amplio. Para ello se ha reunido una colección de ensayos firmados por algunos de los más insignes cervantistas del panorama nacional e internacional, que abordan en sus trabajos la extraordinaria vitalidad del legado cervantino desde una multiplicidad de perspectivas y enfoques.

Las aproximaciones propuestas en esta investigación tienen en cuenta en todo momento las claves estéticas e ideológicas propias de la recepción del autor y de su producción literaria, desde su valor como recurso al servicio de las reivindicaciones de determinados momentos históricos hasta su papel en el cine y en la novela de código publicada en los últimos años, pasando por el tratamiento nada convencional al que algunos escritores de la narrativa más reciente someten a los protagonistas del Quijote

Affective Geographies takes as its point of departure the premise that literature is as influential in constructing the Mediterranean as are its geographic, climatic, or economic features. As the writer with the most vast and varied Mediterranean experience of his era, Cervantes is exceptionally well-suited for the critical task of recovering the literary Mediterranean. Engaging with the interdisciplinary fields of Mediterranean studies, affect theory, and the history of emotion, Paul Michael Johnson reads Cervantes’s texts alongside the affective structures that inscribe the Mediterranean as a space of conflict, commerce, expansion, and empire. In particular, he argues that Cervantes’s writing, with its uncommon focus on the Moorish, Islamic, and North African experience, can serve to realign misconceptions about the Mediterranean we have inherited today. Affective Geographies proposes that, with a more than four-hundred-year history of impacting the hearts and minds of readers, Cervantes’s works constitute a literary longue durée, ramifying beyond fiction to alter the popular imaginary and long-term cultural landscape

El romancero es el género poético más representado en las tres novelas, un predominio hasta cierto punto natural dado que las baladas eran un género de moda y el complemento lógico de las lecturas que obsesionan a don Quijote. Por su carácter intertextual y su condición de poesía citada, los romances no se presentan aislados, sino interpolados en la prosa o equiparados a esta. En los pasajes en los cuales figura, el romancero está íntimamente relacionado con otros aspectos: convenciones y modas literarias, cultura material, erotismo, estratificación social, intertextualidad, nacionalismo, oralidad y escritura, nexos poesía-teatro y un largo etcétera. El análisis de las baladas de los "Quijotes" y la continuación apócrifa no solo ilumina áreas de estudio diversas, también expone claves de la escritura cervantina y avellanediana –y de las visiones que Cervantes y Avellaneda tenían de su tiempo–, amén de completar el panorama de la lectura que cada escritor hizo del rival
