    Wie digitale Vernetzung unsere Gesellschaft verändert, gehört zu den drängendsten Fragen der Gegenwart. Wie jedoch dieser Prozess die zeitgenössische Literatur prägt, erfährt seit der enthusiastischen Erforschung von Hypertexten um die Jahrtausendwende wenig kulturwissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit. Dabei lohnt es sich, die Beobachtungsperspektive von der Literatur im Netz auf das Netz in der Literatur zu verschieben. Denn informations- und kommunikationstechnologische Netzwerke - und vor allem das Internet - schreiben sich zunehmend in die Romane der Gegenwart ein. Nicht selten avanciert das ›Netz der Netze‹ sogar zum inhaltlichen Kernelement von erzählten Welten und wird dort vielfältig wirksam: von der räumlichen und temporalen Inszenierung des Motivs über das Zusammenspiel von Figurenkonstellationen und Erzähltechnik bis hin zur formalästhetischen und symbolischen Ausgestaltung der Texte.     What are the ›borderlands of narrativity› - the complex and culturally productive area where the symbolic form of narrative meets other symbolic logics, such as data(base), play, spectacle, or ritual? The contributors open up a conversation about the ›beyond‹ of narrative, about the myriad constellations in which narrativity interlaces with, rubs against, or morphs into the principles of other forms. To conceptualize these borderlands, the book introduces the notion of »narrative liminality,« which the 16 articles utilize to engage literature, popular culture, digital technology, historical artifacts, and other kinds of texts from a time span of close to 200 years

    Der Begriff „Literatur“ ist seit jeher unbestimmt und definitionsresistent, zugleich aber als disziplinäre Begrenzung gerade in Zeiten der Überschreitung überkommener Fachgrenzen unverzichtbar. Der Band diskutiert Möglichkeiten, den Begriff so zu bestimmen, dass er zur Heuristik in unterschiedlichen historischen und kulturellen Milieus fruchtbar verwendet werden kann. Zugleich wird ausgehend von Phänomenen wie Fiktionalität und Literarizität nach gemeinsamen Merkmalen von Literatur gesucht. Behandelt werden folgende Themen: 1. Aspekte des Prototyps ‚Literatur‘, 2. Fiktionalität, 3. Historische Aspekte des Phänomens ‚Literatur‘, 4. Kulturelle und soziale Aspekte des Phänomens ‚Literatur‘, 5. Konstitution des Gegenstandes Literatur durch die Literaturwissenschaft. Der Band versammelt Beiträge u. a. von Els Andringa, Alexander H.     Main description: 'Bedeutung' ist ein Grundbegriff literaturwissenschaftlichen Arbeitens. Jede interpretierende Aussage über einen literarischen Text setzt Annahmen darüber voraus, auf welche Weise literarische Texte Bedeutung erzeugen, vermitteln oder veranlassen können. In der Literaturtheorie und Ästhetik der letzten Jahrzehnte wurden verschiedene Bedeutungskonzeptionen entwickelt. Eine allgemein akzeptierte Klärung des Begriffs steht bislang aus. Der Band soll zu einer solchen Klärung führen. Seine internationalen Beiträger nehmen die ältere Diskussion auf und suchen nach interdisziplinären Integrationsmöglichkeiten für eine Präzisierung des Begriffs. Ansätze zur Bestimmung des Bedeutungsbegriffs aus Psychologie und Linguistik, Philosophie und Soziologie sowie aus musikwissenschaftlicher, filmhermeneutischer und medientheoretischer Sicht werden mit verschiedenen literaturwissenschaftlichen Perspektiven verbunden.     Humankind’s progress has always been driven by two momentums: the pursuit of truth and the creation of value. But our understanding of value, and our ability to reflect on its complexity, has long lagged behind our constant search for truth. This has, in turn limited our grasp of the essence of truth. This book takes philosophical contemplations on value to a new level, while also explicating some contemporary Chinese styles of philosophical thought. Over the past 25 years, this book has been having an increasing impact on Chinese readers and researchers, and it also provides a good platform for international dialogue on several key issues of philosophical studies

Sonic Interventions makes a compelling case for the importance of sound in theorizing literature, subjectivity and culture. Sound is usually understood as our second sense and – as our belief in a visually dominated culture prevails – remains of secondary interest. Western cultures are considered to be predominantly visual, while other societies are thought to place more importance on the acoustic dimension. This volume questions these assumptions by examining how sound differs from, and acts in relationship to, the visual. It moves beyond theoretical dichotomies (between the visual and the sonic, the oral and literature) and, instead, investigates sonic interventions in their often multi-faceted forms. The case studies deal with political appropriations of music and sounds, they explore the poetic use of the sonic in novels and plays, they develop theoretical concepts out of sonic phenomena, and pertain to identity formation and the practice of mixing in hip hop, opera and dancehall sessions. Ultimately, the book brings to the fore what roles sound may play for the formation of gendered identity, for the stabilization or questioning of race as a social category, and the conception of place. Their intricate interventions beckon critical attention and offer rich material for cultural analysis
