Die künstlerische Forschung stützt sich dabei auf einen philosophischen, biopolitischen und ethischen Diskurs, der für die Erscheinung bloßer Körper in der choreografischen Arbeit relevant ist und der einen Rahmen setzt für eine reflexive Bewegung zwischen Affekt und Ethik, sinnlicher Ansprache und Response. Entblößungs- und Verschleierungshandlungen werden dabei kulturell verankert und in ihrer methodischen und nanopolitischen Bedeutung untersucht. Die Konzepte anarchische Verantwortung und Choreo-Ethik führen zu einer Neubewertung von Kontakt, Beziehung und Solidarität. Choreografie wird so als komplexes Feld von Offenbarungen verstanden, das auf Ökologien von Wahrnehmung und Handlungsfreiheit beruht This choreographed book is dedicated to the phenomenon of the bare body in contemporary performance. This work of artistic research draws on philosophical, biopolitical, and ethical discourses relevant to the appearance of bare bodies in choreography, setting a framework for a reflexive movement between affect and ethics, sensuous address and response. Acts of exposure and concealment are culturally situated and anchored, and are examined for their methodological and nanopolitical significance. The concepts of anarchic responsibility and choreo-ethics lead to a reevaluation of contact, relationship, and solidarity. Choreography is thus understood as a complex field of revelatory experiences based on ecologies of aesthetic perception and ethico-political agency

This collection of new essays by some of its pioneering thinkers-many of whom are performers-demonstrates the breadth, depth, innovation, and critical value of black performance theory. Considering how blackness is imagined in and through performance, the contributors address topics including flight as a persistent theme in African American aesthetics, the circulation of minstrel tropes in Liverpool and in Afro-Mexican settlements in Oaxaca, and the reach of hip-hop politics as people around the world embrace the music and dance. They examine the work of contemporary choreographers Ronald K. Brown and Reggie Wilson, the ways that African American playwrights translated the theatricality of lynching to the stage, the ecstatic music of Little Richard, and Michael Jackson's performance in the documentary This Is It. The collection includes several essays that exemplify the performative capacity of writing, as well as discussion of a project that re-creates seminal hip-hop album covers through tableaux vivants. Whether deliberating on the tragic mulatta, the trickster figure Anansi, or the sonic futurism of Nina Simone and Adrienne Kennedy, the essays in this collection signal the vast untapped critical and creative resources of black performance theory.Contributors. Die künstlerische Forschung stützt sich dabei auf einen philosophischen, biopolitischen und ethischen Diskurs, der für die Erscheinung bloßer Körper in der choreografischen Arbeit relevant ist und der einen Rahmen setzt für eine reflexive Bewegung zwischen Affekt und Ethik, sinnlicher Ansprache und Response. Entblößungs- und Verschleierungshandlungen werden dabei kulturell verankert und in ihrer methodischen und nanopolitischen Bedeutung untersucht. Die Konzepte anarchische Verantwortung und Choreo-Ethik führen zu einer Neubewertung von Kontakt, Beziehung und Solidarität. Choreografie wird so als komplexes Feld von Offenbarungen verstanden, das auf Ökologien von Wahrnehmung und Handlungsfreiheit beruht This choreographed book is dedicated to the phenomenon of the bare body in contemporary performance. This work of artistic research draws on philosophical, biopolitical, and ethical discourses relevant to the appearance of bare bodies in choreography, setting a framework for a reflexive movement between affect and ethics, sensuous address and response. Acts of exposure and concealment are culturally situated and anchored, and are examined for their methodological and nanopolitical significance. The concepts of anarchic responsibility and choreo-ethics lead to a reevaluation of contact, relationship, and solidarity. Choreography is thus understood as a complex field of revelatory experiences based on ecologies of aesthetic perception and ethico-political agency

    This book is the first to examine age across the modern and contemporary dramatic canon, from Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams to Paula Vogel and Doug Wright. All ages across the life course are interpreted as performance and performative both on page and on stage, including professional productions and senior-theatre groups. Act your age. This common admonition provides the springboard for this study, which rests on the premise that age is performative in nature, and that issues of age and performance crystallize in the theatre. Dramatic conventions include characters who change ages from one moment to the next, overtly demonstrating on stage the reiterated actions that create a performative illusion of stable age. Moreover, directors regularly cast actors in these plays against their chronological ages. Lipscomb contends that while the plays reflect varying attitudes toward performing age, as a whole they reveal a longing for an ageless self, a desire to present a consistent, unified identity.
