    This article is about oral Bible translation (OBT), its key features, and how it differs from both written Bible translation and oral Bible storying. The author draws on her own experience as a Translation Advisor on an OBT team, and also from interaction with other OBT teams around the world. The article proposes that internalisation is the key component or “ingredient” in OBT, and also discusses emotional exegesis and voice prosody as essential features of the oral translation process. Ideas are offered on how consultant checking of OBT differs from that of written Bible translation. The article ends by recommending intensive training on internalisation for all Bible translation teams, the development of notes on emotional exegesis and performance, and increased training for translation consultants on orality.

    In this first empirical analysis of how sanctions affect international migration, we apply two estimation strategies, a panel difference-in-differences model and an event study approach. Our dataset covers 79,791 dyad-year observations, reflecting migration flows from 157 origin countries to 32 (largely OECD) destination countries between 1961 and 2018. The data supports that UN and joint EU-US sanctions increase emigration from target countries by around 20 percent. Our event study results for joint EU-US sanctions imply a gradual increase in emigration over the course of a sanction episode. The impact of UN sanctions on international migration is smaller and less persistent. Moreover, the effects are driven by target countries with fewer political rights and civil liberties, where emigration substitutes for the costly voicing of dissent. Finally, our results do not support systematic gender differences in the effect of sanctions on migration.

    Das Theater von Elfriede Jelinek und Peter Wagner, das verstärkt seit dem ausgehenden 20. Jahrhundert rezipiert wird, schreibt sich in die Aufarbeitung der jüngsten Vergangenheit und literarische Rezeptionsgeschichte des Holocaust ein. Mit dem Aussterben der letzten Zeitzeugen ändert sich nicht nur die Perspektive, aus der heute die Verfolgung und Vernichtung von als minderwertig bezeichneten Menschen betrachtet wird, sondern auch die Art und Weise, wie an damalige Untaten erinnert und der Opfer gedacht wird. Insbesondere die Werke der letzten zwanzig Jahre reflektieren geläufige Vorstellungen und Darstellungen der Nazi-Verbrechen aus österreichisch-deutschem Blickwinkel, wobei Elfriede Jelinek und Peter Wagner die Aufmerksamkeit des Rezipienten auf die Täter- und Opferstimmen lenken. Anhand eines aus dramatischen Texten, Inszenierungen und Hörspielen bestehenden Korpus legt die Verfasserin die durch Jelineks und Wagners Werke geleistete Gedächtnis- und Erinnerungsarbeit an den Tag. Um sowohl der regionalen als auch der nationalen Aufarbeitung gerecht zu werden, wurden zwei grundlegend verschiedene Schreibweisen miteinander konfrontiert. Während die Werke der Wiener Autorin weltweit rezipiert (und kritisiert) werden, ist Wagners vornehmlich regionales Theater noch weithin unbekannt. Elfriede Jelinek entwirft eine polyphone Erzählkunst unentwegter Rede und Wiederholung. Die Sprache Peter Wagners zeichnet sich durch den Gebrauch von Pausen und eine starke Bildlichkeit aus. So verschieden die Werke und ihr lokaler bzw. nationaler Einfluss sind, so unterschiedlich fällt auch die kulturelle Gedächtnisarbeit aus. Friedemann Kreuders selbstreflexive Aufführungsanalyse vertiefend (Vgl. Formen des Erinnerns, 2002) fokussiert die Verfasserin das dramatische Werk von Elfriede Jelinek und Peter Wagner der letzten zwanzig Jahre.     Das Forschungsprojekt »textklang«: Mixed-Methods-Analyse von Lyrik in Text und Ton (gefördert durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) zielt auf die systematische und diachrone Untersuchung der Beziehung zwischen literarischen Texten, insbesondere Lyrik der Romantik, und ihrer lautsprachlichen Realisierung bei der Rezitation oder der musikalischen Aufführung. Die Vorstellungen von Mündlichkeit, Klang und Stimme, die im Besonderen mit der Lyrik verbunden sind, werden empirisch untersucht und auch im Sinne moderner Ansätze der Lyrikanalyse theoretisiert. Besondere Bedeutung kommt dabei dem experimentellen Ansatz der Sprachsynthese zu, also der computationellen Möglichkeit, eine menschliche Sprechstimme künstlich herzustellen; er ermöglicht es, eine idealtypische Realisierung des Textes zu ermitteln und menschliche Realisierungen auf ihre ästhetische Besonderheit hin zu testen. ; The research project »text sound«: mixed-methods-analysis of lyric poetry in text and tonal sound (funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, BMBF) aims to undertake a systematic and diachronic investigation of the relationship between literary texts, especially lyric poetry from the Romantic period, and their phonetic realisation in recitations or musical performances. Ideas of orality, sound and voice, which are particularly associated with poetry, are investigated empirically and also theorised in the line with modern approaches to the analysis of lyric poetry. Of particular importance is the experimental approach of speech synthesis, i.e. using computers to artificially produce a human sounding voice; this approach makes it possible to explore an ideal-typical realisation of the text and to test the aesthetic peculiarity of human realisations.
