    Abstract: When writing Macbeth, Shakespeare faced a moral and aesthetic challenge. On the one hand, he had drawn the story of Macbeth from Holinshed's Chronicles, in which Banquo is depicted as an accomplice in the murder of King Duncan. On the other hand Banquo was believed to be the ancestor of King James, Shakespeare’s patron. Shakespeare had to write a play that at once pleased King James, remained true to the spirit of history, and could be a popular hit in the commercial world of Jacobean theatre, all seemingly contradictory ends because of the problem with the character of Banquo. So Shakespeare characterizes him in a different manner from his sources. The new characterization served a number of purposes. The most important reason for the alternation was to please King James, the alleged descendant of Banquo. Other than that, there is the dramatic purpose of creating a foil character for Macbeth, who can highlight Macbeth's characteristics. The presence of a noble Banquo also shows th

    Parole entre vérité et folie : cette monographie, pionnière sur le sujet, analyse l’importance littéraire de la somniloquie – les paroles pronon – cées en dormant – comme un moyen de communication qui ouvre des perspectives nouvelles, au carrefour de la littérature, de la médecine et de la ociété. Les textes dramatiques de Shakespeare, Diderot, Scribe et Wagner sont liés par des liens intertextuels: les auteurs emploient la somniloquie comme le moyen d’expression et de mise en scène des voix marginalisées. Ces situations de communication sont analysées à la lumière du discours médical contemporain des textes (notamment le mesmérisme et les analyses psychiatriques du XIXe siècle) mais aussi en montrant ce que disent obliquement ces textes de la situation sociale des femmes et de la réception de leur parole.

    Virtual Exhibitions ; at "William Shakespeare is arguably the most famous and respected author ever to write in the English language. His plays have been read by millions and watched, both on stage and on screen, by billions of people worldwide. Yet, his works have provoked censorship ever since their writing-even before their first performances on stage. The reasons for censorship are nearly as varied as the works themselves. However, unlike Shakespeare's works, the reasons for their censorship have changed significantly over time. This online exhibition attempts to explain the past and current attempts to censor William Shakespeare's canon of work, and present resources to learn more about banned books and the restriction of intellectual freedom."
