    Main description: The formation of anthropological knowledge in the Early Modern Age arose from the interaction of the disciplines of psychology, anatomy, physiology and natural law which set up a fundamental discourse on the nature of man from the Renaissance until the late Enlightenment. With this, the image of what people saw as human "nature" underwent a change. It was now based on insights into the links between man's biophysical and mental structures, which produced imagination and memory and empowered him to act morally and to produce "culture". Die anthropologische Wissensformation der Frühen Neuzeit entstand aus dem Interagieren der Disziplinen Psychologie, Anatomie, Physiologie und Naturrecht, die von der Renaissance bis in die Spätaufklärung einen fundamentalen Begründungsdiskurs über den Menschen konstituierten. Dabei veränderte sich das Selbstverständnis des „natürlichen0 Menschen: Es basierte nun auf der Einsicht in den Zusammenhang zwischen seiner biophysischen und seiner mentalen Struktur, aus der die Einbildungskraft und das Gedächtnis resultieren und die ihn zu moralischem Handeln und zur Produktion von „Kultur0 befähigt. The volume Landscapes of Affect and Emotion maps out the current approaches on emotion and affect in environmental humanities and interdisciplinary landscape studies. It discusses the contemporary emotional turn in humanities and its relation to space, place and landscape. Emotions and affects are addressed from three main angles: representation and symbolic landscape, place experience and lifeworlds, and landscape as an embodied set of practices. These are studied in terms of the changing human-nature relationship, focusing on politicisations and contestations of landscape as well as boundaries and hybridity between culture and nature.

In so doing, it focuses on the most pressing challenge of our times: how to inhabit a climate-changed world. Its key assumption is that tackling such a complex problem inevitably gives rise to utopian ideas and projects. The book tracks these forms of social dreaming across two domains - political theory as well as speculative fiction - so as to realize the following objectives: first, to uncover the key eutopian and dystopian tendencies in contemporary debates around the Anthropocene; and second, to provide orientation for our planetary existence on the basis of which a political theory of radical transformation, avoiding both fatalism and wishful thinking, may emerge. By juxtaposing theoretical interventions, from Bruno Latour to the members of the Dark Mountain collective, with fantasy and science fiction texts by N. K. Jemisin, Kim Stanley Robinson and Margaret Atwood, the book argues that the current desire for other ways of being and living can be educated in vastly different and frequently conflicting ways"--

    "How do we live at the end of the world? How do we write the story of our species differently and construct a democracy that does not belong to human beings alone? As we face down a new era of climate change, we require nothing short of a philosophy for the end of the world. In this provocative and timely work, the philosopher and poet Travis Holloway proposes a counternarrative for human beings in the Anthropocene. Folding the history of gender, race, colonialism, and capital into geological time, Holloway retells the story of human beings in the Anthropocene in order to direct us towards ways of life that are external to it. Examining contemporary art, he considers how the reinvention of epic is challenging us to face climate change collectively. The final section on politics proposes a radical form of democracy that will have to be won and yet reconceived as a zoocracy, a rule of all of the living. Holloway takes up difficult, unanswered questions in recent work by Donna Haraway, Kathryn Yusoff, Bruno Latour, Dipesh Chakrabarty, and Isabelle Stengers, and engages with the fields of feminism, postcolonialism, political theory, Black studies, and Continental philosophy. Ultimately, this book explores a way to live and assemble at the end that resists both neoliberalism and ethnonationalism"--

He takes readers around the world, from Inuit of the Arctic Circle to pastoral Dinka of East Africa, from Araweté swidden gardeners of Amazonia to Trobriand Island horticulturalists.
