    Ein Überblick zur figurativen Malerei der Gegenwart, vorgestellt anhand der Werke von über 80 internationalen Künstlern und verdeutlicht in 6 Kapiteln, die formale und inhaltliche Strömungen dieser Kunst aufweisen. (LK/DD: Springmann) Mit dem Einzug der Neuen Leipziger Schule in die 1. Liga des Kunstmarktes zeigt sich in der Gegenwartskunst eine weltweite Rückkehr zur gegenständlichen Malerei. Die Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in München präsentiert daher eine große Gruppenausstellung (geöffnet bis 13.08.06) zum traditionellen Thema Bild des Menschen. Mit etwa 120 erst nach 2000 entstandenen Bildern von über 80 internationalen Künstlern zeigt sie generationsübergreifend sowohl Stars der Kunstszene als auch noch völlig unbekannte Künstler. Der Begleitband folgt der Gliederung der Ausstellung und verdeutlicht in 6 einführenden Kapiteln (sachlich-magisch-surreal porträt, körper und psyche, pop-crossover-subkultur, alltag-gesellschaft-politik, welten-gegenwelten) formale und inhaltliche Strömungen der gegenwärtigen figurativen Kunst. Im großen, anhand der Künstlernamen von A bis Z gegliederten Katalogteil werden auf je einer Doppelseite ausgestellte Werke nach dem üblichen Prinzip (links der Text, rechts das Bild) vorgestellt.     "Die Sammlung von unterschiedlichen Beiträgen zum Thema "Die Kunst Der Körper Das Textile" hat ihre Basis in einer Reihe von theoretischen Vorträgen und Künstlervorträgen, die am Institut für Ästhetisch-Kulturelle Bildung der Universität Flensburg gehalten wurden. Die Texte und Bilderessays werden als thematische Sammlung nebeneinander gestellt, so dass in den entstehenden Leerstellen zwischen den unterschiedlichen Beiträgen beim Lesen neue Verknüpfungen und Denkanregungen zur Thematik "Die Kunst Der Körper Das Textile" möglich werden. Ausgangs- und Mittelpunkt ist der Körper, von dem aus Spuren in die Kunst, in das Textile und in die Pädagogik gelegt werden. Der Körper - die Diskussion der Körperlichkeit gewinnt an Dynamik und an Akzentuierungen: Den menschlichen Körper korrigieren, konstruieren, manipulieren, ihn lesen und lernen oder entschönen und an seine Grenzen bringen. Mit dem Beginn der Industrialisierung wurden Kleiderpuppen in Serie angefertigt, in Schaufenstern ausgestellt und damit auch der Körper erstmals als Massenware präsentiert. In der Informationsgesellschaft erhält das Körperbild seine Konditionen durch Fotografie, Mode und digitale Medien. Der Körper wird zum Bild und hat sich dem Bild anzugleichen. Medien inszenieren ein Bezugsideal und beeinflussen unser Denken, Fühlen und Handeln über Körper und Körperlichkeit ebenso wie wir erkennen, dass unser Körper (im Sinne von Leib) als Bezugssystem für Denken, Fühlen und Handeln wirkt.     The life-like depiction of the body became a central interest and defining characteristic of the European Early Modern period that coincided with the establishment of which images of the body were to be considered ‘decent’ and representable, and which disapproved, censored, or prohibited. Simultaneously, artists and the public became increasingly interested in the depiction of specific body parts or excretions. This book explores the concept of indecency and its relation to the human body across drawings, prints, paintings, sculptures, and texts. The ten essays investigate questions raised by such objects about practices and social norms regarding the body, and they look at the particular function of those artworks within this discourse. The heterogeneous media, genres, and historical contexts north and south of the Alps studied by the authors demonstrate how the alleged indecency clashed with artistic intentions and challenges traditional paradigms of the historiography of Early Modern visual culture

    This book argues that the Baroque painter, propagandist, and diplomat, Peter Paul Rubens, was not only aware of rapidly shifting religious and cultural attitudes toward women, but actively engaged in shaping them. Today, Rubens's paintings continue to be used-and abused-to prescribe and proscribe certain forms of femininity. Repositioning some of the artist's best-known works within seventeenth-century Catholic theology and female court culture provides a feminist corrective to a body of art historical scholarship in which studies of gender and religion are often mutually exclusive. Moving chronologically through Rubens's lengthy career, the author shows that, in relation to the powerful women in his life, Rubens figured the female form as a transhistorical carrier of meaning whose devotional and rhetorical efficacy was heightened rather than diminished by notions of female difference and particularity

    A prolific artist with a protean output, Georg Baselitz has rethought the conventions of a range of media in both painting and sculpture, over the course of a career of some sixty years. Born in 1938, Baselitz was expelled from art school in East Berlin in 1956 for 'socio-political immaturity', and moved to the western half of the city. By the late 1950s, he had rejected the dominant tendencies of both sides of the country and his singular achievement was to reintroduce the figure, compromised and discredited though it was by both Nazism and Communism, into art. By drawing attention to art by 'outsiders', such as psychiatric patients, and invoking a Parisian model of existentialist art and literature, Baselitz proposed an alternative European tradition that did not eliminate the human subject. In alluding later to movements in German painting such as Expressionism as well as to artists like Munch, he also consciously rehabilitated the kind of art that was condemned by Hitler as 'degenerate'. The book follows the development of Baselitz's unique style from his earliest work through to the most recent creations of his eighth decade. Calvocoressi's masterful construction of a chronological narrative helps us to evaluate Baselitz's work in terms of the disruptions of his life - historical upheavals witnessed alongside an astonishing career
