Bernhard Oberreither analysiert im Kontext historischer und gegenwärtiger Fetischdiskurse, wie sich vermeintlich unschuldige Dinge oft als Schlüssel zur Rätselstruktur der Texte Hochgatterers erweisen. Und wie dessen Texte zugleich als hochgradig reflektierter Kommentar zum stets prekären, verdächtigen und »korrupten« (Hartmut Böhme) Verhältnis des Menschen zu seinen Dingen zu lesen sind.

Diese ethnografische Studie begleitet den Prozess der Einführung eines SAP-Systems in einem mittelständischen Unternehmen und zeigt, wie das bestehende Geflecht aus Praktiken und Technologien eine Neuanordnung erfährt.     "This book examines the musical ramifications of Russian nineteenth-century expansion to the east and south and explores the formation and development of Russian musical discourse on Russia's own Orient. It traces the transition from music ethnography to art songs and discusses how various aspects of (music) ethnographies, folksong collections, music theories, and visual representations of Russia's ethnic minorities, or inorodtsy, shaped Russian composers' perception and musical representation of Russia's oriental "others." Situated on the periphery, minority peoples not only defined the geographical boundaries of the empire, its culture, and its music, but also defined the boundaries of Russianness itself. Extensively illustrated with music examples, archival material, and images from long-forgotten Russian sources, this book investigates historical, cultural, and musical elements which contributed to the formation and creation of Russia's imperial identity. It delineates musical elements that have been adopted to characterize Russians' own national hybridity. Three case studies-well-known leader of the Mighty Five Milii Balakirev, lesser known Alexander Aliab'ev, and the late-nineteenth-century composers affiliated with the Music-Ethnography Committee-demonstrate how and why, despite the overwhelming number of pejorative images and descriptions of inorodtsy, these composers decided to "forget" their social and political differences and sometimes "confused" and combined diverse minorities' identities with that of the "self."     Der Alltag in Organisationen besteht vor allem aus den Medien und Technologien, mit denen die Koordination zwischen einzelnen Arbeitsabläufen hergestellt wird. Diese ethnografische Studie begleitet den Prozess der Einführung eines SAP-Systems in einem mittelständischen Unternehmen und zeigt, wie das bestehende Geflecht aus Praktiken und Technologien eine Neuanordnung erfährt. Dabei tritt das komplexe soziotechnische Gemenge zutage, auf dem Koordination und Organisation beruhen. Im Fokus stehen neben Hardware und Software auch andere Gegenstände des Arbeitsalltages wie Papiere, Drucker und Akten - vor allem aber die jahrzehntelang eingespielten Routinen und das Erfahrungswissen der Angestellten. In seiner Ethnografie der Treibhausindustrie von Almería zeichnet Felix Hoffmann die Taktiken und Strategien illegalisierter Menschen nach, ihre Existenz zu stabilisieren und sich durch Arbeit in den Treibhäusern Legalität wortwörtlich zu verdienen. Er zeigt, wie hier alltagspraktische Normalisierungsprozesse postkolonialer Arbeitsteilung längst gesetzlich normiert sind. Die Studie fokussiert die prekäre Normalität der neoliberalen Produktion des »Illegalen« und lässt »Normalität« als ein Begriffsfeld, in dem das Politische immer wieder neutralisiert wird, emanzipative Bedeutung erlangen

    " In this fascinating collection of essays Harvard Emeritus Professor Karl S. Guthke examines the ways in which, for European scholars and writers of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, world-wide geographical exploration led to an exploration of the self. Guthke explains how in the age of Enlightenment and beyond intellectual developments were fuelled by excitement about what Ulrich Im Hof called "the grand opening-up of the wide world", especially of the interior of the non-European continents. This outward turn was complemented by a fascination with "the world within" as anthropology and ethnology focused on the humanity of the indigenous populations of far-away lands - an interest in human nature that suggested a way for Europeans to understand themselves, encapsulated in Gauguin's Tahitian rumination "What are we?" The essays in the first half of the book discuss first- or second-hand, physical or mental encounters with the exotic lands and populations beyond the supposed cradle of civilisation. The works of literature and documents of cultural life featured in these essays bear testimony to the crossing not only of geographical, ethnological, and cultural borders but also of borders of a variety of intellectual activities and interests. The second section examines the growing interest in astronomy and the engagement with imagined worlds in the universe, again with a view to understanding homo sapiens, as compared now to the extra-terrestrials that were confidently assumed to exist. The final group of essays focuses on the exploration of the landscape of what was called "the universe within"; featuring, among a variety of other texts, Schiller's plays The Maid of Orleans and William Tell, these essays observe and analyse what Erich Heller termed "The Artist's Journey into the Interior." This collection, which travels from the interior of continents to the interior of the mind, is itself a set of explorations that revel in the discovery of what was half-hidden in language.
