'The truth will set you free' is a maxim central to both theories and practices of resistance. Nonetheless, it is a claim that has come under fire from an array of critical perspectives in the second half of the 20th century. Iain MacKenzie analyses two of the most compelling of these perspectives: the poststructuralist politics of truth formulated by Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze and the alternative post-foundational account of truth and militancy developed by Alain Badiou. He argues that a critically oriented version of poststructuralism provides both an understanding of the deeply entwined nature of truth and power and a compelling account of the creative practices that may sustain resistance

Annotation Badiou Studies is a multilingual, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the philosophy and thought of, and surrounding, the philosopher, playwright, novelist, and poet Alain Badiou. Badiou Studies is dedicated to original, critical and challenging arguments that directly engage with the conditions and circumstances of Badiou's thought. We aim to identify pertinent intellectual discourses, ideas, historiographies, and concepts, and seek articles that situate these theories within emerging events in politics, science, art and love. Badiou Studies is especially concerned with maintaining a fidelity to Badiou's thinking without collapsing into hagiography or celebrity fetishism. This is why we encourage works that actively critique Badiou's philosophy and his currency as an established philosophical figure.Alain Badiou's small book on ethics (Ethics: An Essay on the Understanding of Evil) remains one of the most important points of entry into Badiou's thought, since it is not only widely read across disciplines but is also one of the most widely translated of all of his works. This issue of Badiou Studies (Vol. 3, Issue 1: 2014) draws together scholarly responses and criticisms to Badiou's ethics. Sometimes in agreement, sometimes in violent opposition, always faithful to the imperative to keep thought going.TABLE OF CONTENTS: INVITED PAPERS // The Body of Structural Dialectic: Badiou, Lacan, and the 'Human Animal,' by Lorenzo Chiesa -- Dall'evento al sintomo: Badiou e l'ontologia lacaniana, by Fabio VighiCONDITIONS // Un'ontologia della rivoluzione: Badiou con (Deleuze, Lacan), by Andrea Bardin, Sandro Pellarin, and Diego Vicenzutto -- Etica e filosofia in Badiou, by Pierpaolo Cesaroni -- Etica del Reale: Kant e Badiou, by Luigi Francesco clemente -- Tra Etica e Politica. Annotation The fifth volume of the Journal of Badiou Studies, "Architheater," energized by the publication of Badiou's Rhapsodie pour le théâtre (2014), knits together distinguished approaches to artistic production engaging with the work of Alain Badiou: "Engaging" here means articulated positions that include, imply, or criticize the Badiouiesque corpus. The issue does not therefore seek to implement Badiou's philosophical insights in interpretations of art or of aesthetics, but rather to take Badiou's philosophy as a center of convergence-nexus of a plethora of philosophical positions that include artistic production as a central element of their structure. Thematically, the volume limits its discussion to "a two" of architecture and theater, thinking their overlapping, juxtaposition, and respective generative capacities

This book examines the contention that, in an era where the relevance of the literary novel is compromised, the novel remains an important means of exploring and interrogating societies and culture. It answers the question of what we lose with the loss of the novel as an important public space for discourse. It does so through readings of a selection of Don DeLillo's later novels, together with the political philosophies of Hannah Arendt and Alain Badiou in their engagement with contemporary history.DeLillo explores in his fiction the profound cultural and socio-political changes and historical events which affect people. His literary interest is the status of the individual in changing times. On a personal level, his concern is the writer in an epoch where the novel is challenged by crises of diminished relevance in a techno-media culture and the emergence of radical forms of censorship that target literature and its producers. This book will appeal to students of DeLillo's novels, researchers in the disciplines of literature, philosophy, and contemporary history, and students of Badiou and Arendt. Arendt's political theories are currently undergoing a renaissance of interest, given current global politics.

This text assesses and contrasts the reading styles of two major French philosophers, Alain Badiou and Gilles Deleuze. It seeks to address the French critical corpus often neglected in English writing on Deleuze, as well as contributing to the critical account of Badiou which remains limited in both philosophical cultures.

'Indifference to Difference' organises around Alain Badiou's suggestion that, in the face of increasing claims of identitarian specificity, one might consider the politics and practice of being indifferent to difference. Such a politics would be based on the superabundance of desire and its inability to settle into identity. Madhavi Menon shows that if we turn to another kind of universalism - not one that insists we are all different but one that recognizes we are all similar in our powerlessness to contain desire - then difference no longer becomes the focus of our identity.
