Disseminating Jewish Literatures compiles case studies that represent a broad range of epistemological and textual approaches to the curricula and research programs of literature departments in Europe, Israel, and the United States. In doing so, it promotes the integration of Jewish literatures into national philologies and the implementation of comparative, transnational approaches to the reading, teaching, and researching of literatures. Instead of a dichotomizing approach, Disseminating Jewish Literatures endorses an exhaustive, comprehensive conceptualization of the Jewish literary corpus across languages. Included in this volume are essays on literatures in Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish, as well as essays reflecting the fields of Yiddish philology and Latin American studies. The volume is based on the papers presented at the Gentner Symposium funded by the Minerva Foundation, held at the Freie Universität Berlin in June 2018

    This volume offers a thorough introduction to Jewish world literatures in Spanish and Portuguese, which not only addresses the coexistence of cultures, but also the functions of a literary and linguistic space of negotiation in this context. From the Middle Ages to present day, the compendium explores the main Jewish chapters within Spanish- and Portuguese-language world literature, whether from Europe, Latin America, or other parts of the world. No comprehensive survey of this area has been undertaken so far. Yet only a broad focus of this kind can show how diasporic Jewish literatures have been (and are ) – while closely tied to their own traditions – deeply intertwined with local and global literary developments; and how the aesthetic praxis they introduced played a decisive, formative role in the history of literature. With this epistemic claim, the volume aims at steering clear of isolationist approaches to Jewish literatures

Eines der wesentlichen Ziele der Publikation ist es, sowohl die Macht als auch die problematischen Aspekte des Eros sowie seinen Beitrag zur Gründung von Familien und Gemeinschaften zu erfassen. Die textbasierten und theoretischen Annäherungen an das Konzept des Eros und die vielfältigen in diesem Zusammenhang erschlossenen Themen reflektieren die unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen sowie die interdisziplinäre Herangehensweise der Autoren. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf den historischen Aspekten des Eros, seiner zeitlichen Einordnung und Kontextualisierung.****************This collection of articles deals with the notion of Eros from a broad range of historical, literary and cultural perspectives. One of the primary aims of the collection is to comprehend both the power and the problematic aspects of Eros and its contribution to the formation of family and community. Considering the concept of Eros textually and theoretically, the variety of topics raised reflects the different disciplines of the authors as well as their interdisciplinary approach. Special emphasis was given to the historical aspect of Eros, its temporal location and contextualization. Yosef Kaplan is the Bernard Cherrick Emeritus Professor of Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His most recent publications include The Religious Cultures of Dutch Jewry (with Dan Michman, Leiden-Boston 2017) and Early Modern Religious and Ethnic Communities in Exile (Cambridge 2017). Yoav Rinon is a Renee Lang professor in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Department of Classics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His publications include: Sadian Reflections (Madison, 2005), Homer and the Dual Model of the Tragic (Ann Arbor, 2008), a verse translation of and commentary (with Luisa Ferretti-Cuomo) on Dante's Inferno (Carmel Press, 2013), and The Crisis in the Humanities (Hakibbutz Hameuchad, 2014). Shimrit Peled is a Lecturer at the Department of Hebrew Literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Among her publications: The Israeli sovereign: discourse and the novel 1967-1973 (Jerusalem, 2014), "Constructing Sexual Feminine Subjectivity in Victoria by Sami Michael" (Jerusalem, 2014). Ruth Fine is Salomon and Victoria Cohen Professor of Iberian and Latin American Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her recent publications include Lo converso: orden imaginario y realidad en la cultura española (with M. Guillemont and J.D. Vila) (Madrid/ Frankfurt 2013) and Reescrituras bíblicas cervantinas (Madrid/Frankfurt, 2014).

    This volume collects works by Hispanists from different origins: from researchers whose mother tongue is Spanish and who carry out their work in the Hispanic world, whether peninsular or American, to those who work in regions where Spanish is a minority language and/or or who have acquired Spanish as a second language. This joyous diversity finds its expression in the works that make up this volume, highlighting one of the central objectives of the AIH: the academic and plural dialogue between the Hispanicisms of the world, an enriching and vivifying dialogue that knows no borders. Doing so for the first time outside of Europe and America takes on a very special significance, by inserting this multiplicity of perspectives into the present and much-needed dialogue between our peoples and regions. The printed book exclusively includes the opening speeches and plenary presentations, which were given by Myrna Solotorevsky, Patrizia Botta, Angela Schrott, Juan Diego Vila, Manuel Rivero Rodríguez and James Valender.     En los albores de este nuevo siglo en el que se vienen renovando los estudios sobre diversos cánones, la investigación sobre la literatura de conversos sigue siendo materia espinosa, pues carece aún de la claridad conceptual necesaria y de abordajes que cuestionen las visiones dominantes, así como del respeto a su complejidad y diversidad. El conjunto de estudios aquí reunidos, fruto de reconocidos y afamados especialistas de la investigación histórica y literaria de los siglos XV, XVI y XVII, es el resultado intelectual del Coloquio Internacional La literatura de conversos después de 1492, celebrado en la Universidad Hebrea de Jerusalén para pensar la especificidad cultural de los conversos españoles posterior a la expulsión de 1492, intercambiar perspectivas, renovar agendas críticas, recuperar cauces exegéticos o impugnar asertos perimidos sobre la materia La intención de este volumen no es la formulación de un contracanon o la postulación de un nuevo canon hispánico, sino la recuperación genuina de una historia y una literatura de la diversidad que reconfigure la centralidad del fenómeno converso.[Texto de la editorial]
