    The present study takes two tendencies into account that have shaped the cultural contact between the Romanian culture and the culture of the German minority in Romania. On the one hand, the re-writing of history respectively of the historical discourse according to cultural policy of the Romanian communist state is envisaged, on the other hand, the selection of articles on Romanian culture and literature published in the weekly Karpatenrundschau are analysed in order to trace tendencies cultural transfer.

    Die Verlags- und Buchhandelsgeschichte des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts ist sowohl »faszinierende Blütezeit des Buchhandels in Deutschland« (Raabe 1984, S. IX) als auch reich an Innovationen des Kinder- und Jugendbuchmarkts im Prozess der Institutionalisierung und der Modernisierung (vgl. Schmid 2018, S. 22 ff.; Ewers 1982, S. 13 u. a.). Zu Recht wurde betont, dass sich Verlage als »eigentlich bestimmende und dynamische« Instanz der Kinder- und Jugendliteratur herausstellten, weil sie »als erste die enorm gestiegenen Lese- und Bildungsbedürfnisse immer breiterer Schichten wahrnahmen« und darauf strategisch geschickt reagierten (vgl. Dettmar u. a. 2003, S. 128)... This article, a contribution to the history of the book, presents the publishing house Carl Friedrich Amelang as an important example of specialised children’s book production in early nineteenth-century Berlin and Germany. The focus is on strategies of production, distribution, the materiality of books and their reception with special attention paid to the importance of illustrations, specific book styles and authors such as Johann Heinrich Meynier and Amalia Schoppe. It shows how this publishing house continued the tradition of eighteenth-century children’s literature, while modernising it with new genres such as adventure novels and information books.

    The German newspaper in Romania Neuer Weg, whose first issue appeared on March 13, 1949, was addressed to the German-language readership and was at the same time a propaganda tool of the Romanian Communist Party. The overall aim of the whole press of that time was to support the social, political, economic and cultural changes that the first years of the so-called popular democratic construction brought. For this reason, the present work intends to analyse the features of the communist discourse in the press, examining the socialist use of language and highlighting the linguistic peculiarities. The author takes the standpoint of pragma linguistics in the study and evaluation of the linguistic data and starts from the concept of the so-called wooden language.

    Across different cultures in the world, companies recruit new workers by publishing job announcement in newspapers. This contribution examines job announcement in German and Cameroonians newspapers in order to bring out theirs similarities and differences. The analysis reveals that job announcements in both countries are quite similar as far as the communication situation is concerned. Differences and similarities appear in text structure and in the usage of linguistic items.

    The present paper focuses on some aspects of the so called wooden language in the german newspaper published in Romania from the pre-revolutionary period, to be exact in the forms of expression of this language identified in the condolences messages on the death of the communist leaders Josef Wissarionowitsch Stalin and Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, which were published in the newspaper Neuer Weg (NW) (1953 respectively 1965). The theoretical point of view hold by the author is that of sociolinguistics and pragmalinguistics. At first, the concept wooden language is defined and its most important structural features and means of utterance are identified, the socio-historical background, that encourages the existence of the analysed phenomenon is also explained. The results of the analysis are presented further: the form of expression of the “wooden” statements, their morpho-syntactic, semantic, pragmatic-stylistic structure. The paper contains some final remarks on general characteristics of the written press.
