Traditional issues of hermeneutics on language, comprehension and interpretation are retaken here in their relation to translation studies, under the less common philosophical perspective of the late Wittgenstein, taking into account also some aspects of linguistic pragmatics. Main target is a prophylaxis of the dogmatism that emerges when properties of the theoretical model are projected into the object under examination. Two kinds of necessity are to be distinguished: on one hand, a necessity derived from internal relations, which are the conditions of possibility for the system as a whole; on the other, a system-external necessity which is simply taken as granted. The current debate often ignores that any theory is organized in different layers, which leads some arguments to move off others, simply because they do not operate at the same level. To avoid conceptual confusion, one should acknowledge the different spheres in which these intertwined layers operate. As an alternative to the dichotomy between the traditional essentialist perspective and postmodern relativism, I propose a radically pragmatic language conception, blending insights from the later philosophy of Wittgenstein with some central ideas of hermeneutics. The so resulting concept of translation/interpretation reverses the conventional relationship between commensurability and translation. Discutem-se aqui questões tradicionais da hermenêutica sobre linguagem, compreensão, interpretação e aplicação no tocante à tradução, sob a menos usual perspectiva filosófica do Wittgenstein tardio e levando também em conta aspectos pontuais da pragmática linguística. O objetivo principal é a profilaxia do dogmatismo resultante da projeção de propriedades do modelo teórico no objeto a ser examinado. Propõe-se distinguir dois tipos de necessidades: por um lado, aquela das relações internas, que constituem as condições de possibilidade do sistema como um todo, e por outro aquela que é externa ao sistema, sendo simplesmente assumida como dada. A discussão atual não raro ignora que qualquer teoria organiza-se em diferentes camadas, o que leva alguns argumentos a passar ao largo de outros, pelo simples fato de não operarem no mesmo nível. Para evitar confusões conceituais, torna-se necessário levar em conta as diferentes esferas em que operam essas camadas entrelaçadas. Como alternativa à dicotomia entre a perspectiva essencialista tradicional e o relativismo pós-moderno, sugere-se uma concepção de linguagem radicalmente pragmática, combinando insights da filosofia tardia de Wittgenstein com algumas ideias centrais da hermenêutica. O conceito de tradução/interpretação daí resultante inverte a relação convencional entre comensurabilidade e tradução. Traditionelle Fragestellungen der Hermeneutik zur Thematik Sprache, Verstehen, Deuten und Anwendung in Zusammenhang mit der Translation werden hier aus der seltenen Perspektive der Spätphilosophie Wittgensteins untersucht, unter Einbezug einzelner Aspekte der linguistischen Pragmatik. Hauptziel ist die Prophylaxe des theoretischen Dogmatismus, der entsteht, wenn Eigenschaften des Modells auf das zu untersuchende Objekt projiziert werden. Zu unterscheiden sind zwei Arten von Notwendigkeiten: Einerseits jene der internen Relationen, als Bedingung der Möglichkeit des ganzen Systems, andererseits jene, die dem System extern sind und einfach als gegeben vorausgesetzt werden. Die gegenwärtige Diskussion übersieht nicht selten, dass jede Theorie aus unterschiedlichen Schichten besteht, sodass manche Argumente aneinander vorbeigehen, weil sie einfach nicht auf dem gleichen Niveau operieren. Darum soll der jeweilige Wirkungsbereich jener miteinander verflochtenen Ebenen berücksichtigt werden, um begriffliche Verwirrungen zu vermeiden. Als Alternative zur Dichotomie zwischen der traditionellen, essentialistischen Perspektive und dem postmodernen Relativismus wird eine radikal pragmatische Sprachauffassung vorgeschlagen, welche Einsichten des späten Wittgenstein mit einigen Kerngedanken der Hermeneutik kombiniert. Der daraus resultierende Begriff der Translation stellt die herkömmliche Beziehung zwischen Kommensurabilität und Übersetzung auf den Kopf.
